World Meditation Day - December 21
On December 21, World Meditation Day, the Center for Learning To Be—in collaboration with the Boise Nepali community—held a heartfelt and energizing yoga session that perfectly echoed the spirit of the day.
By fortunate coincidence, our class fell on this global day of reflection, and with the generous guidance of visiting volunteer teacher Parbati Gyawali and local teacher Yogesh Koirala, we welcomed a small, diverse group of participants in a member’s garage (space constraints required us to limit attendance).
The group included, postpartum participants working to heal body and mind, an elder participant, and new comers who had never done Yoga. Despite varied experience levels, teachers skillfully guided everyone through mantra chanting, lively warmups, asanas, traditional shatkarmas (dhauti, kapalbhati, nauli, and trataka), pranayama such as bhramari, and nadi shuddhi and wrapped up the session with Anapana meditation. Trataka and bhramari were particular highlights.
After the session we shared homemade vegetarian food, reinforcing our aim to make mindfulness and traditional yoga accessible without financial barriers.
This experience has strengthened our commitment to continue offering free classes and building a mindful community; we will soon structure our sessions to cultivate the seven energy centers—stay tuned for upcoming classes and ways to get involved.
